History Of

TADOBA NATIONAL PARK

Tadoba National Park, also known as the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, is one of India's oldest and most renowned national parks. Its history is deeply connected to local folklore, the region's ancient forests, and the tiger conservation efforts in India.

The name "Tadoba" is derived from Taru, a god worshipped by the local tribes in the region. According to legend, Taru was a brave tribal chief who died in a mythical encounter with a tiger. He was later deified, and a shrine was established in his honor near the Tadoba Lake, which remains a site of worship for the local Gond tribespeople.

Tadoba was declared a National Park in 1955, covering an area of 116.54 square kilometers. In 1986, the neighboring Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary was created, and in 1995, both Tadoba National Park and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary were merged to form the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR). This combination now covers an area of approximately 625 square kilometers, making it one of the largest tiger reserves in Maharashtra.

The Ultimate Dilemma:

Choosing Between a Canter Bus and a Gypsy

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, the Canter Bus and Gypsy (Jeep) are the two main vehicles available for safari tours. Each offers a unique way to explore the park, and they differ in terms of size, price, and experience.Canters are larger vehicles, designed for group safaris. The safari in a canter is less intimate due to the number of people on board, but it's an affordable option for solo travelers or large groups.

The gypsy offers a more private and personalized safari experience. Since it accommodates fewer people, the safari is quieter and allows you to get closer to wildlife without much distraction. It can access both core and buffer zones, providing a better chance of seeing tigers, especially in the core area, where tiger sightings are more frequent. The jeep's small size allows it to go through narrower jungle paths, increasing the possibility of spotting a variety of animals.
